Belarus MFA Statement on Protest Note Handed to Ukrainian Diplomat
On October 9, 2026, the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus, Ivan Novitsky, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
The summons followed yesterday's attack by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle on a cargo vehicle with Belarusian registration in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation. As a result of the attack, a citizen of Belarus sustained serious injuries.
A protest note was handed to the diplomat, stating that Kyiv had previously been warned against such actions. The vehicle’s affiliation was clearly identifiable, and the Belarusian side has grounds to consider the attack deliberate.
The Ukrainian side has been warned against repeating such actions. It was emphasized that responsibility for the consequences lies entirely with the Ukrainian authorities. Belarus reserves the right to take adequate countermeasures.
The Belarusian side called for an end to provocations leading to escalation.
