Belarusian Leadership Appoints New CEOs, Stresses Localization and Quality
The leadership of Belarus has approved the appointment of new general directors at two major industrial enterprises, 'Lidselmash' and 'Belkommunmash,' and outlined key strategic tasks for their development. At 'Lidselmash,' the new director was given a clear mandate: achieve full localization of production, with a minimum of 90% on the initial stage, using exclusively Belarusian components. The emphasis was placed on ensuring high product quality, with leadership stressing that 'the main thing is quality.'
The new head of 'Belkommunmash' was urged to maintain momentum and continue advancing without pause. The leadership noted the director's relative youth as a reason to push forward, stating, 'You must keep moving ahead.' A unified message was delivered to both executives: any failure in product quality will result in serious consequences. Strict accountability is expected, with leadership warning of 'the toughest scrutiny' in case of substandard output.
The appointments reflect a broader push by Belarusian authorities to strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce reliance on foreign components, and ensure self-sufficiency in key industrial sectors.
Belarus has been actively pursuing import substitution and industrial self-reliance, especially since 2020, amid Western sanctions and supply chain disruptions. State-led initiatives have focused on boosting domestic production in machinery, automotive, and agricultural equipment sectors.
