Bipartisan US Senators to Urge Treasury Secretary to Support Stalled Russia Sanctions Bill at NATO Summit
A bipartisan group of U.S. senators plans to urge Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to support stalled sanctions legislation against Russia during the NATO summit in Ankara, according to WSJ. The bill would empower the president to impose new sanctions and tariffs on countries continuing to purchase Russian oil, gas, or uranium. Although the bill enjoys broad bipartisan support, it has stalled because the White House wants greater flexibility for negotiations with Moscow on ending the war in Ukraine.
