BMW's generous severance offer triggers IT collapse after staff rush to apply
German automotive giant BMW triggered an unexpected IT collapse by offering 40,000 employees voluntary severance with generous payouts. The company promised compensation ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 euros for each year of work experience. However, the generous offer caused a massive surge in interest, with so many employees rushing to resign immediately for the payouts that the company's internal website crashed under the volume of applications and stopped functioning completely.
