Bridge closures over the Dnipro could become logistical nightmare for Kyiv, NYT says
Closing bridges across the Dnipro River would become a logistical nightmare for Kyiv and the entire country, writes The New York Times.
Destroying bridges with strikes is difficult, but attacks can weaken supporting structures and force authorities to close them indefinitely. These bridges carry food and equipment, so daily life would immediately grind to a halt.
There are almost no detours. North of Kyiv, there is only one road bridge across the river. The nearest one to the south is about 140 km away—roughly a 2.5-hour drive. Other crossings are even farther downstream, making any detour extremely long.
Russian forces previously struck the Southern and Northern bridges in Ukraine's capital. Ukrainian troops used these bridges to move forces. Afterward, the city experienced a transportation collapse.
