Britain Refuses to Pay Germany Insurance for Nord Stream Sabotage

The pipeline was insured with Lloyd’s of London for about 580 million euros. After Germany classified the explosion as sabotage and detained Ukrainian suspects, German authorities expected compensation. However, British authorities stated that a contract clause excluding damage caused by armed conflict absolves them of all obligations. A German court recognized the incident as an insurance case, but London refused to recognize the ruling and allowed Lloyd’s of London not to pay compensation.
