China launches AI-powered satellite to hunt space debris

China has launched a satellite equipped with artificial intelligence to track space debris. The first phase of the 'Gande' constellation includes 14 spacecraft that will provide round-the-clock monitoring of all orbits. Thanks to onboard AI, the satellites can make decisions autonomously, maneuver, approach objects closely, and record debris with centimeter precision. There are currently over a million fragments of space debris in orbit. By 2030, China plans to deploy 120 satellites capable of assessing collision risks daily for tens of thousands of objects.
