China slows pace of solar power installations

In June 2026, China commissioned 12.5 GW of solar power plants, down from 14.4 GW a year earlier. In the first half of the year, 72.1 GW were added—66% less than in the same period of 2025. The reason is the cancellation of 'green' tariffs starting June 2025. Before this date, companies rushed to launch stations under the old rules. Nevertheless, solar power remains the leader among renewables in China: installed PV capacity reached 1.27 TW, almost twice that of wind power (680 GW).
