Donald Trump Plans New Import Tariffs on Dozens of Countries

According to the publication, a new tariff system will replace the current 10% duties expiring on July 24. It is noted that the US president has decided to tighten trade policy despite concerns from some advisors about potential economic consequences ahead of the midterm elections.

The new tariffs will range from 10% to 12.5% and could affect around 60 countries, including EU states, China, Japan, India, South Korea, Mexico, and several Southeast Asian nations.

The new measures are planned to be introduced this week following an investigation into forced labor cases. This will allow the US administration to bypass the need for emergency powers, which were previously restricted by the Supreme Court.

On July 21, Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on goods from Canada. The duties will cover nearly 300 items, including smartphones, cement, packaging, clothing, furniture, plants, and sporting goods. They will take effect for Canadian products starting August 19, 2026.
