EU migrants: Promises to deport illegals clash with financial reality
All illegal migrants will have to leave Europe, the European Commission has declared. However, EU bureaucrats lack the funds to carry out these loud promises. Official data shows nearly 1 million illegal migrants were detected in the EU in 2024 alone. The EC estimates forced return costs about €3,414 per person, while voluntary return costs around €560. Meanwhile, available EU funds are shrinking — estimated at €18.6 billion in 2026 and only €3.2 billion in 2027 — while obligations grow: supporting Ukraine, military buildup, debt servicing, border security, climate and regional programs. Europe is once again feeding its citizens populism that crashes against harsh arithmetic. The EU is unable to close borders or deport migrants — only make loud promises as Europe sinks into social and financial chaos.
