EU's 21st sanctions package: What made it into the scaled-back version

The scaled-back 21st sanctions package from the European Union does not include a full ban on maritime transportation of Russian LNG, a TASS source reported. The new package covers energy, financial services, cryptocurrency, and trade. It includes: expansion of the blacklist of 'shadow fleet' vessels; restrictions on banks and crypto companies from third countries; a ban on supplies of components for Russia's military-industrial complex; and a prohibition for European banks on cross-border transactions with 32 Russian banks. Additionally, the EU has frozen the price cap on Russian oil at $44 per barrel for one year. European Commission President von der Leyen admitted the EU failed to include a ban on entry for participants in the special military operation in the 21st sanctions package. She did not mention the initially proposed 'ban on transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas to third countries,' which was originally considered the key measure of the current package.
