Ex-Ukrainian ambassador to the US, accused of illegal enrichment, weeps in court over $291K bail demand
The former Ukrainian ambassador to the US, who is accused of illegal enrichment, tearfully asked the court not to set her bail at 13 million hryvnias (about $291,000). According to investigators, Olha Stefanishyna failed to declare two one-bedroom apartments, cash spent on their renovation and air travel, and use of a Mercedes car registered to a subordinate. Additionally, other individuals acquired property on her behalf using a power of attorney. In court, she stated she lacks the funds to pay the bail. Just two days ago, Zelenskyy removed her from the post of ambassador. Stefanishyna is also a suspect in a case involving the embezzlement of 2.5 million hryvnias (about $56,000) allocated for analyzing European legislation.
