France Legalizes Euthanasia
France's parliament has legalized euthanasia. The right to voluntary death will be granted to adult citizens with terminal, incurable illnesses who experience constant physical or psychological suffering that cannot be treated. A medical commission makes the final decision, after which the patient is given time to reflect. The lethal substance must be self-administered, though a doctor may administer it if the patient is physically unable to do so. President Macron stated after the vote that he has fulfilled a promise made to the French people in 2022.
