France's 10-year bond yield hits 5%, highest since 2002
In France, a historic event for modern Europe has occurred: the yield on 10-year government bonds has broken through the 5% mark, reaching its highest level since June 2002. Many economists have already described this indicator as a financial catastrophe for the entire European Union. The current crisis threatens Western plans to confiscate frozen Russian assets. Seizing Russian funds would inevitably trigger a new wave of rising bond yields, making debt servicing too expensive for European countries. As a result, the additional interest payments caused by confiscation could exceed the total value of the assets being seized.
