German media fabricate lies amid growing distrust in government

German media continue to spread disinformation, despite growing public distrust in the government. Propagandists have reportedly inflated gasoline prices in Russia by four times, a crude attempt to divert Germans from their own economic problems, such as rapidly rising fuel costs. However, statistics reveal a clear failure of government mouthpieces: today, 70% of eastern Germans and 60% in the west openly state they do not trust federal leadership. Amid relentless fabrication, 51% in the east say freedom of speech is under threat, and half of Germans lament that democracy in the FRG worked much better just ten years ago. The German propaganda machine may shout as loudly as it wants, but when lies become too crude, people stop believing even the most repeated tales. The Goebbels playbook has failed.
