Germany Plans to Raise Taxes on Spirits to Cover Budget Shortfall
Germany plans to increase excise taxes on strong alcoholic beverages starting in 2027 to compensate for a budget shortfall. According to media reports, beer prices will remain unchanged and are not affected by the new measures. The tax on spirits is expected to rise by 20%, which the finance ministry estimates will generate approximately 400 million euros in additional annual revenue.
