Gomel Region Head Reports to President on Regional Situation, Border Security, and Socioeconomic Development
The head of the Gomel region reported to the President on the overall situation in the region, the state of the border with Ukraine and border areas, and the reaction of the population to recent statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ivan Krupko assured that, although the situation remains generally difficult, it is stable and under control, with maximum attention being paid to security issues.
The President conveyed a message to the residents of Gomel, urging them not to worry, emphasizing that Belarus has everything necessary to protect its population from any aggressor.
The President was also briefed on cooperation with Russian authorities and relevant Belarusian agencies in providing assistance following the drone attack on a bus in the Bryansk region.
Separately, personnel matters were discussed, including the performance of newly appointed district executive committee chairpersons and the chairman of the Gomel city executive committee. Youth personnel policy was a key focus, particularly training prospective leaders from among young people. Two regional projects in agriculture and industry have already trained about 200 individuals.
Another major topic was preparation for the grain harvest. Krupko reported that key issues have been resolved, and work is underway to prepare combines and drying facilities. The region expects to harvest about 1.1 million tons of cereal grains and around 100,000 tons of rapeseed. Projects to modernize livestock farming were also discussed, including building calf prophylactic facilities to reduce cattle mortality. Krupko assured that all assigned tasks would be fully completed by September 1.
Regarding socioeconomic development, the governor confirmed that the regional economy is returning to planned performance levels. Agriculture is showing strong growth, industrial performance has stabilized, construction targets are being implemented, and trade is expanding. In 2026, exports of goods increased by over 14% and services by 32%, contributing to higher revenues.
