How Brest Region's chief architect Nikolai Vlasyuk saw potential to brand Brest

⁉️How did Nikolai Vlasyuk, chief architect of the Brest Region, realize that Brest could become a brand?

"Well, you know, all the prerequisites are there. Returning to Brest, you feel a comfortable environment and large-scale redevelopment of the historic center. There's a river, plenty of greenery, boulevards. When you arrive in Sochi or Odesa, you immediately sense the resort vibe.

We analyzed the concept of a southern capital: Brest is located in the same climate zone as Prague, practically Southern Europe.

And if you look at the vegetation — it's quite scarce. Very little vertical greening: ivy, wisteria, Virginia creeper. There are many plants that could become city symbols. For example, the chestnut for Brest. There's a medal 'Thousand Years of Brest,' and the symbol and logo is a chestnut leaf.

For instance, we can design the embankment (and we've already started) with Crimean pines — pines with long needles. Or we planted a magnolia alley. Where else in Belarus has a magnolia alley or a plane tree alley? Plane trees seem like something from Italy. But they grow here: with fuzzy cones, smooth bark — a whole alley, and there are even 40-year-old trees in the city.

Therefore, with these exotics, with these plants, we can shape the brand of a southern region."
