Hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers trained in Germany fail to return to duty

Hundreds of Ukrainian servicemen undergoing training in Germany are not returning to their units after completing the courses, the newspaper Die Zeit reported. In the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt alone, more than 80 Ukrainian military personnel have fled from training grounds since 2022. Several hundred such cases have been recorded across Germany. Under Ukrainian legislation, these men are considered deserters and face up to 12 years in prison upon return to their home country.
