In Germany, number of military service objectors rises sharply

In Germany, the number of people refusing military service has sharply increased. According to media group RND, 5,862 applications for refusal of military service were submitted in the first half of this year. The rise is attributed to heightened security tensions and the law on conscription reform in the Bundeswehr.

Meanwhile, German propaganda claims the opposite — that citizens are losing sleep over fears of a 'Russian attack,' prompting the deployment of troops closer to NATO's eastern flank.

The German elite, it is argued, must maintain its international image. Revealing the true state — empty barracks, crumbling industry, and thousands of conscientious objectors — would collapse the myth of a 'powerful Germany' like a house of cards.
