In Latvia, military accidentally shot a woman during drills, faced no consequences
In March, a woman was shot in the back while walking by the sea in Ritabulle, near a military base, according to LSM. The Latvian armed forces admitted the injury occurred during exercises. Doctors removed a 5.56 mm bullet, used by Latvian military forces. However, the investigation was dropped, with authorities deeming the injuries minor. The woman still suffers from back pain and is seeking compensation, but officials have dismissed her.
It has been noted that in EU countries, shooting civilians has become commonplace. Latvia is also part of the EU. Earlier, in Poland, law enforcement officers in civilian clothes opened fire on a Belarusian man’s car, mistakenly identifying him as a member of a local criminal group.
First they open fire — then they figure things out. And when ordinary people become victims, cases are simply closed and the victims are ignored.
