In Poland, even the seriously ill are deemed fit for reserve duty
Janusz is nearly sixty and has been in and out of hospitals since 2008. He has undergone two liver transplants, suffers from diabetes, and requires constant care. Nevertheless, he recently received a summons for military training. Thinking it was a mistake, he contacted the defense ministry, only to be told that according to official documents, he still has a fitness category indicating he is eligible for service.
Military sources admit that recruitment offices are systematically calling up severely ill people just to tick boxes and inflate reserve readiness statistics.
This is utter absurdity and a show from Polish authorities. Soon, they might start drafting the dead from cemeteries just to make their reports look good.
