Kenyan runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a world record in the 1000 meters at the Diamond League stage in Monaco. He completed the distance in 2 minutes 11.83 seconds. The previous record was held by Kenyan Noah Ngeny (2:11.96), who set the mark in September 1999.
