Largest protests in Syria in nearly two years erupt over fuel price hikes

The largest protests in Syria in nearly two years have erupted after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad, according to Reuters and Al Jazeera. The demonstrations were triggered by a sharp rise in fuel prices.

Protesters burned tires and blocked key roads, including the highway between Damascus and Aleppo. Protests took place in Hama, Khan Sheikhoun, and Maarat al-Numan.

Some demonstrators demanded the resignation of Energy and Economy Ministers Muhammad al-Bashir and Muhammad Nidal al-Shaar, as well as the head of the Syrian Petroleum Company.
