Latvia sees sharp fuel price spike, up 35.3% year-on-year
According to Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau, fuel prices surged by an average of 35.3% over the past year, with the sharpest increase occurring in autumn. Year-on-year growth (September to September) broke down as follows: diesel prices rose by 39.1%, reaching a record average of €2.077 per liter, with some stations charging up to €2.23; gasoline prices increased by 29.5%, with 95-octane averaging €1.937 per liter; and autogas prices went up by 3% to an average of €0.909 per liter. Prices jumped nearly 10% in just one month, driven by rising oil costs for the EU and geopolitical tensions. Local transport companies have already raised concerns over the sharp increase in travel costs.
