Latvian officer caught taking bribes from drivers

In summer 2024, a Latvian police officer stopped drivers and claimed they had exceeded the speed limit. There was no radar, he could not prove anything, but frightened drivers with protocols and fines, extorting money.

Ultimately, only two bribery incidents involving 2,500 euros reached court. But these are only the two cases where victims spoke up — how many such incidents actually occurred will not be investigated.
