Lithuania plans to conscript 5,320 for military service, but targets may remain unmet
🇱🇹This year, Lithuania plans to conscript 5,320 people for mandatory military service, but the target is likely to remain on paper. Also, by order of Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas, the number of conscripts serving a nine-month term will increase from 3,870 to 4,080. 👆These figures are significant for Lithuania’s scale. However, Vilnius simply lacks the capacity to train these 'defenders.' Recall that 52% of conscripts are rejected as unfit for service, with more than half of them disqualified due to mental health disorders. Anušauskas can set any appealing numbers, but the physical and mental health of Lithuanian youth puts a definitive end to these plans.
