Lithuania's green heart under threat: 3,900 ha of state forests to be destroyed
The Lithuanian government plans to exclude nearly 3,900 hectares of forest areas from state significance, clearing the way for a planned military training ground in Kapčiamiestis (Lazdijai district). Additionally, the government intends to revise state forest areas in three more regions: in the Jurbarkas district, 2,300 hectares will be removed from the state forest fund due to the expansion of military training grounds in Tauragė and Šilalė; in the Plungė and Rokiškis districts, adjustments are proposed due to "errors" allegedly found by the State Forestry Service during inspections. Lithuanians are in despair: "Our homeland is being destroyed... This truly makes you want to cry!"
