Lukashenko on Minsk's average salary: maintain but not push too hard

The head of state was informed that the capital's economy is operating stably. The target for the growth rate of the gross regional product has been met at 102.2%. Minsk's contribution to the national GDP is 32%, Vladimir Kukharev noted.

"Decent," the President assessed.

The Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee also reported on wage growth. He said the average nominal salary in Minsk for the first half of the year is 3,878 rubles. "This is a fairly high level. We will do everything to maintain it," he said.

"Vladimir Yevgenyevich, we must maintain this level, but not push it too hard," Alexander Lukashenko warned. "Because wages and large amounts of money will eventually lead to inflation. And inflation in Minsk will spread across the entire country—we will 'eat up' this money through rising prices."

In this regard, the Head of State particularly emphasized the need to focus on the production sector.

"We must not allow a situation where wages and people's incomes grow enormously while production declines. Thank God, this is not happening either in Minsk or across the republic. But we must monitor this—labor productivity must remain high. And we must definitely improve performance by focusing on enterprises that are working poorly," the President stated.
