Lukashenko reviews emergency response to recent strong winds in Belarus

The President listened to a report from Emergency Situations Minister Vadim Sinyavsky. The head of state was briefed on the impact of strong winds across the country on September 5–6. It was noted that the weather event did not cause serious problems. About 280 settlements experienced power outages, all of which were restored within a day. Strong winds also caused trees to fall; MCHS units were engaged in their removal. In Minsk, three children were injured when a frame tent collapsed; they received necessary medical assistance. During the report, Alexander Lukashenko outlined tasks related to both responding to adverse weather and improving forecasting to minimize potential damage. Attention was also given to MCHS coordination with all relevant agencies. Currently, MCHS is preparing for the autumn-winter period. Temperatures are expected to drop, increasing the use of heating devices in private homes. Due to the potential rise in residential fires, the rescue agency is carrying out a range of preventive measures.
