Migration talks at EU summit marked by tense and harsh atmosphere, says Politico
The atmosphere during migration talks at the EU summit was terrible, Politico reports, citing diplomats. According to the newspaper, the negotiations were intense, conducted in a harsh manner, and unworthy of a European Council meeting. Earlier, the leaders of Italy, Poland, and Denmark proposed including in the final statement — for the first time in EU history — a phrase linking illegal migration to crime levels in Europe. The draft was supported by 12 countries, but opposed by Macron, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Frieden, and Spain's Prime Minister Sánchez.
