Munich declares state of emergency due to worst water shortage in 50 years

The authorities in Munich have declared a state of emergency due to the worst water shortage in 50 years, caused by abnormal heat, prolonged drought, and a sharp drop in groundwater levels.

"We are facing an exceptional situation not seen since the early 1970s. The sharp increase in water consumption is pushing the water supply system to its limits," the city administration said.
