Myths about stray animal capture: tranquilizer darts, not bullets

Many still believe that stray dogs and cats are simply shot. This is a myth. The law does not provide for shooting stray animals. Special darts are loaded not with bullets, but with calming drugs. They immobilize the animal for safe transport to a shelter.

Sergei Kolpakov:

"We use the veterinary drug ditilin. It is a muscle relaxant approved for capturing stray and fur animals.

It is registered according to all regulations. Of course, like any medication, it has side effects, but a full diagnosis of the animal is impossible during capture. Sometimes risks materialize, but this is a combination of circumstances."

❗️Main conclusion: Legal animal capture is not cruel hunting, but a regulated humane procedure. However, it is unfortunately impossible to completely eliminate risks for animals.
