New York and parts of New Jersey shrouded in smoke from Canadian wildfires
New York and parts of New Jersey are covered in smoke due to wildfires in Canada. Only three days remain until the World Cup final, which will take place on Sunday at the New York–New Jersey stadium. Authorities have issued a warning about extremely poor air quality.
Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, wear protective masks, and keep windows closed. Smoke from over 100 fires in Canada has also enveloped Toronto and is moving further into the northeastern United States.
Currently, about 835 fires are active in Canada, with 112 of them uncontrolled. Nearly 1.9 million hectares have already burned.
