One of the strongest earthquakes in history hits Venezuela, followed by quake in Japan
One of the most powerful earthquakes in Venezuela's history has struck the country. Two major quakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 hit the northern coast just 40 seconds apart. Caracas and other regions have suffered severe damage.
Authorities have already confirmed 32 deaths and around 700 injuries. Rescue workers continue to clear rubble, and the death toll could reach thousands.
The natural disaster did not end there: a 7.2-magnitude earthquake was also recorded in northeastern Japan shortly after the Venezuela quake.
