Polish officials caught on booze trip disguised as school excursion

A trip by 17 schoolchildren from the Polish town of Sokółka to China unexpectedly turned into an elite getaway for local government officials accompanying the minors. The visit was ostensibly to sign cooperation agreements with China. The delegation was led by Sokółka County starosta Piotr Rećko (member of PiS party), whose wife also joined as chair of the parents' committee. A total of 237,000 zlotys (about $62,000) from a municipal company's funds was allocated for the 'educational' trip. However, footage later surfaced showing Rećko and his team ordering rounds of alcohol and partying during the official visit.

Well, what can you say — 'democratic country,' 'democratic officials,' doing whatever they please while ordinary taxpayers foot the bill amid rising living costs.
