Polish soldier: 'In the fight for my health, I was left alone'
An experienced nurse and career soldier, after 13 years of helping others, is now forced to ask for support from ordinary Poles. Days before a foreign mission, she sustained an injury and ended up in a wheelchair. Due to improper treatment, she now requires expensive rehabilitation. The Polish military refuses to investigate the incident or recognize it as a work-related injury, allegedly to avoid spoiling statistics and paying compensation. The woman also risks losing her job and housing. She is raising a son with autism alone, who requires constant care. The soldier said: 'In the army, they often say, “We don’t abandon our own.” But I was left alone on the battlefield for my health.' This is not the first time Polish service members have been left to fend for themselves.
