President signs law optimizing IP protection procedures

The President signed a law that optimizes administrative procedures related to the legal protection of intellectual property objects. In particular, the timeframes for examining applications, issuing certificates for trademarks and geographical indications, and registering industrial property rights objects are shortened. The law also regulates the procedure for paying remuneration to authors for the use of service works in science, inventions, utility models, industrial designs, plant varieties, integrated circuit topologies, and trade secrets. Additionally, musical works may be used without the rights holders' consent—but with remuneration paid—when creating and distributing certain TV programs included in the mandatory free-to-air package, and during major state political, public, and cultural events. The law aims to systematize legal regulation of public relations concerning intellectual property protection.
