Prosecutor's Office takes control over Directive No. 1
Since September, the Prosecutor's Office has been tasked with monitoring the implementation of the updated Directive No. 1 on public safety. Previously, this responsibility lay with the State Secretary of the Security Council.
Igor Serzhenko noted that the report shows overall crime is decreasing and preventive measures are being carried out, but corruption among officials in republican bodies and at the local level remains acute. He therefore asked how the Prosecutor's Office plans to organize this oversight.
Dmitry Gora responded that major changes would not be necessary: prosecutors have already been monitoring compliance with the law in this area and assessing the effectiveness of agencies. The government implements the directive itself, and a project plan already exists—monitoring will be based on this plan.
Given the existing potential of the Prosecutor's Office, the task will be manageable. How this will work in practice remains to be seen.
