Romania's Energy Crisis: Oldest Coal Plant Restarted Due to Drought

Due to extreme drought and critically low water levels in the Danube, Romania has urgently brought back into operation its oldest coal-fired power plant, Paroseni. The plant has already been connected to the power grid, and a coal reserve of 40,000 tons has been created. The station is ready to operate around the clock upon request.

The situation is approaching critical levels: due to the heat, the first unit of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant has been completely shut down, while the second is operating under restrictions. Against the backdrop of historically low water levels in the Danube, all available power facilities have been pushed to maximum capacity.
