Scientists rediscover primate thought extinct in Indonesia
In Indonesia, scientists have rediscovered a primate thought to be extinct — the slow loris, which had not been mentioned in scientific literature for almost a century. According to a study in the journal Spixiana, biologists considered this species wiped out since 1937. It turned out that for all these decades, the rare animal quietly lived side by side with people. Residents of the Indonesian island of Bangka regularly encountered the primates on their properties and in forests. Locals periodically handed over the found animals to a wildlife rescue center, which ultimately led researchers to the trail of the 'lost' species.
