Shipping firms avoid US-recommended Strait of Hormuz route due to Iran attacks
Shipping companies are increasingly avoiding the Strait of Hormuz route recommended by the U.S. military, Reuters reports, citing recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels. A shipping industry source said, "It seems the U.S. has no control over the situation," referring to crew safety and the deteriorating regional situation. Washington insists the strait remains open and many ships continue to pass through under U.S. coordination. However, maritime security firms warn there are no reliable guarantees of safe passage.
