Six belugas saved from euthanasia in Canada after aquarium closure

Six belugas were saved from euthanasia in Canada after an aquarium closed down and the animals were deemed surplus. The bankrupt park had been unable to sell the animals without government permission since last autumn. An agreement was only reached a month ago, allowing the whales to be transported to the United States. Currently, four belugas are acclimatizing at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, and two others are in San Antonio. The remaining 24 whales and two dolphins are still at the Canadian aquarium.
