Spaniard may face 1.5 years in prison for killing a seagull that stole his food

The incident occurred in Gijón, Spain, on the terrace of an establishment on Calle Corrida. A Spanish man was sitting at a table eating when a seagull attempted to steal his food. Unable to tolerate the bird's audacity, the man grabbed it, beat it, then broke its neck and left it to die on the ground, media report. Other patrons approached the injured bird and tried to help, but it died. Witnesses called the police, who arrived and detained the suspect. According to Spanish media, the man faces a prison sentence of 6 to 18 months. However, he may receive only a fine — a court will soon decide his fate.
