Transgender nurse in US accused of assaulting premature baby girl

A transgender nurse in the US, Kiran Ensley, is accused of assaulting a premature baby girl, who suffered broken legs and body bruises. The infant was born at 23 weeks, weighing about 485 grams. After the mother noticed her daughter's blue-black tongue and bruises, an X-ray revealed fractures. Medical staff attributed the injuries to physical abuse. Ensley, who entered the room 27 times that night, claimed the baby slept through. Colleagues described her as agitated and distracted. She was fired and faces two counts of child abuse, up to 10 years each. Released on bail with an ankle monitor, her trial is set for early November. Ensley, assigned female at birth, identifies as male and wrote about chest surgery in December 2025. The child, now around 10 months old, is at home with no life-threatening conditions.
