Trump Administration Weighs Independent AI Safety Oversight Body
The administration of Donald Trump is considering the creation of an independent body to oversee the safety of artificial intelligence models, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
According to the agency, the body, modeled after FINRA, would operate under the supervision of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and enable government and industry to jointly develop AI safety standards.
The plan, developed with the involvement of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, is currently under review by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. According to one source, Trump has not yet been briefed on the initiative.
