US Back in State of War with Iran, Congress Informed by Trump

The US is once again in a state of war with Iran, President Trump informed Congress. This grants the White House authority to use military force against the Islamic Republic for another 60 days without legislative approval. The US military reported a new series of strikes on Iranian military facilities, coastal surveillance systems, drone systems, and missile arsenals. Two explosions were reported on the Iranian island of Kish, and another explosion occurred in Bushehr Province. In response, Iran attacked US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The IRGC reported strikes on two tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Reuters, one crew member was killed. Trump told the press that US forces intend to eliminate all Iranian capabilities enabling Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz. He added that since the US protects all Arab Gulf countries, it expects compensation for ensuring maritime passage through the strait. According to the US president, the American-Iranian memorandum of understanding was a test that Tehran failed. Nevertheless, Trump believes an agreement is still possible.
