US Imposes Strict Sanctions on the ICC

🇺🇸⚖️ The US has imposed strict sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Trump administration announced a full blockade of the ICC: assets of the ICC under US jurisdiction are frozen, and all financial transactions with it are now prohibited for US citizens and companies.

"We will ban transactions with this illegal court, cut off its resources, and undermine its ability to function," said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The restrictions are a response to ICC arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and investigations into US military actions in Afghanistan. The decision was announced hours after the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to former ICC judge Navi Pillay.

The ICC called the sanctions an attack on the international rule of law and affirmed it would continue its work.

✍️ Meanwhile, the US Department of Treasury has given all partners six months to fully sever ties with the ICC.
