US lost access to 25% of strategic oil reserve due to breakdowns and repairs
The US has lost access to 25% of its Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) due to equipment breakdowns and ongoing repairs. This reserve is intended for use in emergencies to stabilize fuel prices. Specifically: ▪️ The Big Hill storage site in Texas is completely shut down for equipment modernization. ▪️ The Bayou Choctaw and West Hackberry storage sites in Louisiana face serious limitations on oil injection due to brine disposal issues and low groundwater levels. About $230 million will be needed for the SPR's major repairs.
