WHO and IARC publish new global cancer report

The World Health Organization together with the International Agency for Research on Cancer has published a new report on the current state of oncology worldwide.

▪️ In 2024, 20.6 million people worldwide were diagnosed with cancer, including non-melanoma skin cancer.

▪️ Excluding non-melanoma skin cancer, the number of new diagnoses was 19.5 million: 9.9 million in men and 9.6 million in women.

▪️ Childhood cancer is considered separately from adult cancer: it is estimated that globally, 400,000 new cancer cases occur annually in children and adolescents (aged 0 to 19 years).

▪️ According to projections, by 2050 the number of new cancer cases could reach 35 million per year. Cancer will affect 92% of people worldwide to some extent.
